Stion Energy Services Expands Southern CA Portfolio With Frameless Module Rooftop Projects
Stion Energy Services, the project development division of Stion Corporation, recently completed a 228 kilowatt (kW) rooftop project for U.S. Continental Marketing, Inc. in Corona, CA and a 100 kilowatt rooftop project for Garvey Wholesale Beverage in Rosemead, CA.
The projects highlight Stion’s strength in the Southern California commercial market, and the performance advantage of Stion’s modules in high temperature environments. Stion’s proprietary CIGS technology provide an industry-leading temperature coefficient (-0.26% / °C), allowing for superior performance to crystalline silicon modules in higher temperature environments.
U.S. Continental Marketing and Garvey Wholesale Beverage are both family owned companies steeped in tradition with a long history of leadership in their respective markets.
U.S. Continental Marketing is a leading vertically integrated manufacturer of leather and fabric care products that has been in business over 20 years. Key customers include Dillards, Journeys, Coach, Michael Kors, and Sebago. U.S. Continental is proud to be ISO 9001 and 14001 compliant and is committed to responsible environmental management by reducing emissions and recycling and formulating of the art biodegradable products.
“The solar installation, which was completely permitted and installed in less than 5 months, will help to stabilize growing energy cost and the resulting saving benefits are an important component of our efforts to improve operational efficiencies,” added Steve Toloday, CFO of U.S. Continental Marketing.
Garvey Wholesale Beverage is a beverage distribution firm in Rosemead, California which has been in business for over 45 years. Originally started as a satellite distributor to get products to farms and farmers markets, Garvey has grown to become the leading cash and carry beverage distributor in Southern California.
“We believe that using solar power will safeguard against our increasing electricity cost,” said Phil Capriccio, President of Garvey Wholesale Beverage. “We are a conservative business that has been in operation since 1967 but after evaluating the different technology options available to us, we recognize that the Stion solution provided us with the highest kilowatt hour(kWh) performance and the best overall value to us.”
Both projects utilized Stion STL frameless modules, an easy-to-install, innovative solution for rooftop projects. Stion is the only solar manufacturer supplying frameless modules into commercial and residential projects. “These projects demonstrate Stion’s ability to rapidly develop, construct and commission a solar system that offers clean, renewable energy with superior lifecycle payback to our customers,” said Jeff Cheng, President of Stion Energy Services. “This Stion rooftop system (Garvey Wholesale Beverage), which is one of the largest commercial solar systems in the City of Rosemead, will produce the highest energy yield for a solar system located in the immediate vicinity,” said Kevin MacKamul, Sr. Director of Engineering for Stion.
